Plans for a new burial ground have been given a welcome boost by V R Jennings Funeral Service. The funeral home in Arlesey Road, Ickleford, has donated £5,000 to the project, which thanks to the generosity of village resident, Dorothy Parker, has become reality in the making. Mrs Parker donated the five-acre site to the village, with the wish that it was used as a burial site for all former and current residents of Ickleford and those who may have been actively involved in the community. Due to open next spring, the site, part of Alley Field and adjacent to Chambers Lane, will be of great benefit to the village, as the existing burial ground at St Katharine’s Church is full and there are only limited spaces for the internment of ashes. The ground, which is hoped will be funded from various grants and donations, will be pleasantly landscaped to offer peace and tranquillity and will feature a separate Garden of Remembrance. Shane Illsley, manager of V R Jennings Funeral Service, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting such an important initiative to the community of Ickleford. As a local funeral director, we understand the need for families wanting to be buried in their locality, and this new site will hopefully alleviate the current problem for hundreds of years to come.”
